The Pan South East Asian
Toastmasters Convention 1997 was attended by 538 Toastmasters
from 4 countries namely Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia
The Convention scored several No.1's for District 51:

First Time the winner of the Johor Bahru
International Speech Contest will go straight into the Regional
Contest to be held in USA
First time we have a World Champion among us
First time in the world that a mandarin session

First time Division A ( Johor Bahru Toastmasters
Club) organized a Toastmasters Convention
First time Division A Toastmasters were given a
State Dinner.
First time the Mayor of Johor Bahru City was our
Distinguished Guest
First time all the educational sessions were
planned and delivered by members from our own District 51
