DISTRICT 51 DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2007/2008

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EDUCATION & TRAINING 2006/2007

CHEE KENG KOK,  DTM

District 51

Serving members in Indonesia, Brunei &Malaysia

Effective Communication & Leadership………how important are these in your workplace?  What about in the social interactions and personal areas of your daily lives?”

I often posed these questions to people who asked me about the benefits of the Toastmasters programs.

For more than 82 years, Toastmasters International has helped more than 2 million members worldwide from all walks of life to discover, improve and sharpen their skills in these two essential success skills for both their professional and personal lives.

A unique program which has a flexible self-moderated pace, this means the members are in control to determine how fast they want to develop themselves.  Using well-researched educational materials and the time-proven “LBD” system (i.e. Learning By Doing), members are guided by the structured experiential programs during live meetings and given hands-on guidance by experienced toastmasters along their journey.

One of the key learning applications consists of the prompt feedback system comprising the evaluation of members’ performances and related ideas for changes and improvements.

For a modest monthly fee equivalent to two meals at McDonalds, members enjoy all the abovementioned hands-on learning in a friendly environment where your fellow members share your aspirations for continuous improvement in both areas of Leadership and Communication.

The track record of the organization with more than 12,000 clubs spread across USA, South America, Europe, Africa, and Australasia definitely testifies that the program is helpful and effective to millions of people worldwide.

So, go check out a club meeting today and you will be glad you did!

Division A GOVERNOR 2006/2007

After many years, Division A has finally set up a website to actively market and spread the good word of Toastmasters.  This is a great achievement as the website is certainly a powerful medium of communication between members and non-members alike.  I must commend and congratulate the Assistant Division A Governor for Marketing, DTM E T Lee ,  for his effort and time in setting up this website.

Division A had been a President's Distinguished Division in the past.  Similarly, several of its Toastmasters were also speech contestants of the highest caliber.  It is indeed a privilege to be given the opportunity to serve such a distinguished Division.

I have 2 major goals for this year.  The first is to build at least 2 new clubs to increase the total number of clubs to 12.  Without this number, Division A may be relegated to history.  The second is to increase the membership strength, particularly in those clubs with membership lower than 20.  These are challenging goals indeed.  Thus, I look forward to working closely with my Division A Council members and the Club Presidents in making these goals a reality.

Last but not least, I wish every Toastmaster will remember the mission of Toastmasters in his or quest for excellence in leadership and communication.

DIVISION A GOVERNOR 2007/2008

Assistant Division A Governor  (Marketing) 2006/2007

For several years, Division A was the premier division in District 51.   We were the  Division who organized the first Pansea Toastmasters Convention in 1997 when District 51 shed its "P" status   ( p for provisional).  Building on this success  we went on to organize a semi- annual convention ( JB 2000)  and in April 2007 we went on to  organize yet another annual Toastmasters Convention (JB2007).

We won the worlds Top Ten Bulletins Awards twice !

We also have visits from several VIPs  including 1996 World speech contest champion David Nottage .

I was shocked in 2005 to hear of a motion to dissolve Division A for lack of clubs.

We are committed to bring back the past glory to Division A.  After quite a few brain storming sessions we  decided to form the JB Task Force and  the Malacca Task force will soon be formed. The Mission Statements of the JB Task Force and Mission Statements of the Malacca Task Force clearly state that we will work diligently to increase the number of Toastmasters  clubs in Division A so that Division A will be sustainable and progressively growing to effectively serve the members in the division.

All Toastmasters Clubs in Division A meets only twice a month.  As such the time slot for learning is very small.  We therefore advocate all clubs here

  • go back to the basics of Toastmasters.
  • Cut down all activities that are not  related to the Toastmasters movement.
  • Be focused in the objectives of Toastmasters

In this way we hope to attract the right type of people to ours clubs and make Division A strong again.

We welcome anyone sharing our vision to join us in our efforts.
